  A 1.2 kilometre lateral move irrigator on the Rockliff family’s “Windermere” property not far from Dalby, in Queensland’s Darling Downs region.

  Outcome

  Noel and Greg Rockliff, who primarily grow winter cereals and cotton, state that it is “difficult not to be overawed by the newcomer to the property,” which is one of Australia’s largest.  “But it's well worth it,” they advise of the system.

  Gilbert Dalle-Nogare owns a dairy farm, ‘Eden Park’ 12km north of Shepparton in north east Victoria. Years of prolonged drought had taken its toll on Gilbert, ravaging his ‘oasis’ and forcing his share-farmer, Andrew Younger, to reduce his dairy herd – that is, until this year when good rains fell and the new irrigation pipeline was installed on his property.

A combination of the sun and a solar tracking borehole pumping system means cattle on the Telford’s 158 hectare property won’t go thirsty through such mishaps as a windmill or pump motor breakdown.
